Web-a-dex Stakes
Claim in Internet Gold Rush
In late November last year,
Silver Star Studio of San Antonio, Texas, owned by Michael
Steenbergen, filed the business name Web-a-dex Internet Services
and purchased the domains WEB-A-DEX.COM and LOANLOANS.COM, thus
staking a clear claim in the internet gold rush. Modeling the web
site after the large national providers, Web-a-dex has
consistently offered user friendly information and premium free
services.
Opening with a holiday advertizing campaign in the local central
Texas newspapers, Michael affirms the effectiveness of using the
print media in conjunction with the internet. "A small ad in
Austin and San Antonio over a 10 day period brought a consistent
50 new visitors a day to the web site for weeks. That was five
days in each city."
In conjunction with World-Net, another local San Antonio company,
Web-a-dex provides dial up internet access for the San Antonio
region at about 70% of the cost of national providers like
America On Line, GTE and ATT. Service is available in much of the
210 and 830 area codes. With several thousand users, and a firm
belief in controlled expansion, carrier drops and busy signals
are almost non existent, thus offering a second advantage over
the nationals. Business serivce is emphasized through hosting
servers for local companies, along with promoting T-1 and other
high speed, high band width products.
The web site is addressed at http://www.web-a-dex.com and along
with the standard fare, offers unique content to the internet
user. The list of convenient features and services is long. News,
weather, sports, dictionary, library, search, research,
encyclopedia, translator, free voice chat, shopping, chat, email,
web pages, and original art, poetry and music are all presented
in a user friendly manner.

Web-a-dex Invests In
5 Domain Names
Silver Star Studio and Web-a-dex
Internet Services expanded their claim in the intenet gold rush
with the opening of the LOANLOANS.COM and SPACEROCKER.COM domains.
Along with the home web site at WEB-A-DEX.COM this makes 3 of the
five domains owned by the company operational. SAFINANCE.COM and
RAINBOWLOANS.COM are the remaining domain names bought by Web-a-dex.
The record intenet domain name sale remains at 11 million dollars
while Bank of America's 3 million dollar purchase of LOANS.COM
was the main factor in the Web-a-dex purchase of LOANLOANS.COM.
Internet Realty is an evolving industry. The realization that
convenient internet domain names were a limited and finite
resource sparked a buying frenzy during the past few years that
has resulted in the "better" names escalating wildly in
price accompanied by the legal confrontation over intellectual
properties and internet domains.
Intellectual properties are copyrights and trademarks. If a word
is trademarked or copyrighted, what happens when someone else
buys the domain name of that word? Can they publicly display the
website without infringing on the trademark or copyright? Can
they "hostage" the name and extort the real owner, the
copyright trademark holder? This presents an interesting question
that will resolve itself throught the legal and legislative
process as the internet develops.
This issue was of particular importance in the purchase of the
SPACEROCKER.COM domain. As the author of 'Space Rocker', Michael
Steenbergen was determined to avoid this conflict in the future.
"The purchase of this domain was integral to the future
production of the rock opera" he says.
